Vyasa Kavi Fakir Mohan Senapati (1843-1918)

 

Fakir Mohan Senapati was a master of writing short stories. He injected a new life in Oriya literature when the environment of gloom & despair was prevalent in Orissa. He pushed Oriya literature to new horizons. He had an amazing sense of humour. His sense of humor was excellent. He was at par with Premchand & Bibhuti Bhushab Banerjee. He was a great teacher even without any formal education. He was the first major Short story writer & novelist whose "Cha Mana Atha Guntha" delt with the exploitation of Zamindaars. This novel has been translated into various languages & is very popular worldwide. He was also a painter & adminsitrator. Rebati is regarded as one of his best creation till date.

Discarding romantic themes, he wrote about the common man and his problems. In his writingm oriya nationalism was the dominant name.

He was also one of those important person from Orissa on whom the govt has released a stamp. Some of his works include The Brideprice and other Stories,
