Orissa is filled with interesting places & if you decide to come to Orissa for the sake of spending some time in some nice place it is going to be a very difficult task for you to find out where to go. To help you plan your trip, we have briefed some of the places. Though this is not a very exhaustive detail, you can get in touch with your tour operator for more details.

PURI-KONARK-BHUBANESWAR (GOLDEN TRIANGLE)

This is called Golden Triangle. For going to these places, either you can take a tourist bus, or you can also go to Puri from Bhubaneswar and from Puri you can go to Konark. A lot of tourists come to this place for paying homage to Lord Jagannath & also to see the Sun Temple. In between you can also go around Lingaraj Temple, Rajarani temple, Kedargouri temple, Chandrabhaga, Dhauli  temple, Pipili, Khandagiri & Udayagiri and also to Nandankanan. Touring all these place won't take you more than 4-5 days time in all.

KHANDAGIRI, UDAYAGIRI, DHAULIGIRI, NANDANKANAN

Jain temple in Udayagiri & Khadagiri, Buddhist Stupa in Dhauligiri, Biological park in Nandankanan are the main attractions of this trip. The entire trip can last for 1-2 days.

CUTTACK, DHABALESWAR, JAJPUR, CHANDIKHOL

Cuttack is famous for Silver filigree work. This is one of the biggest commercial hub in Orissa. Dhabaleswar for Water sports & Sacred Shiva temple, Chandikhol has the temples alongwith beautiful hills, Jajpur has Biraja temples. These are the beauty of these areas. The entire trip will not exceed 2-3 days.

ATRI, HIRAPUR, RAGHURAJPUR, SATAPARA

Hot spring and Medicinal plants at Atri, Yogini Shrine at Hirapur, Dolphins & Boating in Satapara, Patachitra of Raghurajpur are the main attractions of this visit. The entire trip will not exceed 3-4 days.

BHITARKANIKA, PARADEEP, KENDRAPARA, RATNAGIRI

The famous crocodile sanctuary at Bhittarkanika, ports in Paradeep, Baladevajew temple in Kendrapara, Buddhist complex at the hills of Ratnagiri will form an integral part of the tour. Touring these places will take 2-3 days.

CHILIKA, GOPALPUR, BERHAMPUR, TAPTAPANI, MAHENDRAGIRI

Chilika Bird sanctuary, Gopalpur beach, silks weavers in Berhampur, Hot spring in Taptapani, hills of Mahedragiri are the gifts for the tourists in this area. Berhampur is also a great shopping centre for famous silk sarees and handicrafts. Berhampur is also a famous trade centre for rice, sugarcane and other agricultural products of the region. Touring these places will take 2-3 days. Mahendragiri is located at a distance of 125km from Berhampur.

BARIPADA, SIMILIPAL & KHICHING

Tiger reserve & Sanctuary at Similipal, Handloom products of Chandanpur, Stone Carving of Khiching are the main attractions of this area. Touring these places will take 3-4 days.

BALASORE, CHANDIPUR, PANCHALIGESWAR

Rich with the fertile belt, Balasore is called the Granary of Orissa. Chandipur and Talasari are famous for their beaches, and the five lingams at Panchalingeswar make it a revered venue for numerous devotees. Touring these places will take 2-3 days. The river Budhabalanga flows through region. Some portions of the town were occupied by French & some were occupied by Dutch. The temple of Mahadev Banewar is one of the main places of tourist interest in the district.

KEONJHAR, KHANDADHAR, GHATGAON TARINI

Rich mineral deposits and the two waterfalls - Sanaghagara and Badghagara at Keonjhar; a 152 m. high waterfall at Khandadhar; Temple of Brahmeswar Mahadev at Gonasika and the Shrine of Goddess Tarini at Ghatgaon are a few of the wondrous attractions of the tour. Touring these places will take 2-3 days.

DHENKANAL, SAPTASAJYA, KAPILAS, TIKARAPARA

The most ancient forest covers of Orissa at Dhenkanal shelters the elephants, tigers and numerous species of birds and beasts; Saptasajya is a favourite pilgrimage spot with the temples of Saptarshi and Raghunath; the loftiest peak of Kapilas range enshrines the temple of Lord Shiva Chandrashekhar, and the exotic environs of Tikarpara Sanctuary protects the Gharial crocodile population. Touring these places will take 2-3 days.

SAMBALPUR, HUMA, HIRAKUD DAM, NRUSINGHANARH

Sambalpur is famous for the internationally renowned textiles (ikat), rich tribal heritage and fabulous forestlands; Huma is home to the famous Leaning Temple dedicated to Lord Bimaleswar; Ushakothi houses a wildlife sanctuary; Hirakud Dam across the Mahanadi river is one of the world's longest dams; and, the Vidala-Nrusimha Temple at Nrusinghanath stands amidst the verdant beauty of the picturesque Gandhamardan hills. Touring these places will take 3-4 days.

HARISHANKAR, BOLANGIR, SONEPUR, RANIPUR JHARIAL, PATARA DAM

Green forests where wildlife roams free; the Gandhamardan hill with  foaming waters sparkle at Harishankar waterfalls; The mini temple town of Sonepur and the reminiscence of Saivite, Vaishnavite, Buddhist and the unique sixty-four Yogini temple in the twin villages of Ranipur-Jharial are a great interest to tourists. Patara dam is surrounded by hills from three sides and the DAM from one side. There is also a Shiva temple built by Gulshan Kumar of T-Series. Touring these places will take 4-5 days.

BHAWANIPATNA, PATALAGANGA, PHUL-JHARAN, JUNAGARH etc.

An oldest town; the natural spring at Patalaganga and a huge perennial waterfall at Phurli Jharan (15 km from Bhawanipatna) lend a gorgeous and relaxing view to the picnickers. Bhawanipatna is a town of numerous temples dedicated to different deities of the Hindu Pantheon. Named after its presiding deities Bhawanishankar, it is the most convenient base for touring various places of interest in this district as well as those in Nawapara. Junagarh (26km from Bhawanipatna) is the old capital of Kalahandi. It was a well-built fort with Oriya Inscriptions on its temple walls. Karlapat (32km from Bhawanipatna) is popular for its charming wildlife. Situated nearby is the beautiful Khanduala fall. Belkhandi (67km from Bhawanipatna) is on the confluence of river Tel and Utei is a place of archeological importance. Ampani Hills located at a distance of 77km from Bhawanipatna has a valley called Haladigundi. This valley is a place for viewing colourful wildlife. At a distance of 7km from here, are the prehistoric cave paintings at Gudahandi. Budhikomna houses the unique brick temple of Pataleswar. This is located at a distance of 40km from Khariar & 115km from Bhawanipatna. Yogimath is located at a distance of 9km east of Khariar. It is known for its cave paintings of Neolithic age.
Touring all these places will take 5-6 days.

KORAPUT, SUNABEDA, DUMDUMA, GUPTESWAR, HATI PATHAR, MINNA JHOLA

Koraput district abounds in meadows, forests, waterfalls, terraced valleys and darting springs; Sunabeda is a wonderful example of Orissa's gorgeous landscapes; the glittering waterfall at Duduma; Lord Shiva reigns supreme at Gupteswar; natural boulders at Hatipathar appear to be elephants in certain light; on the confluence of three rivers, Minna-Jhola is a perfect place to relax in the sun. Touring these places will take 3-4 days.

PHULBANI, BOUDH, CHAKAPAD, DARINGIBADI

Rich tribal culture and colourful flora and fauna adorn Phulbani; the Buddhist shrine at Boudh; temple of Lord Birupaksha and southwards leaning trees at Chakapad, and the scenic beauty of Daringbadi (also known as 'Kashmir of Orissa') attract the tourists to this region. Touring these places will take 3-4 days.

ROURKELA, KHANDADHAR, VEDAVYAS, MANDIRA

Rourkela is famous for its Steel Plant, Indira Gandhi Park and the highest Hanuman Statue of India; Khandadhar for its glittering waterfall; Vedavyas for its natural beauty and Mandira for its dam and picturesque surroundings. Touring these places will take 3-4 days.

BHIMAKAND

Bhimakand is a small village located at a distance of 30 km towards Talcher town & 50km away from Angul on the right bank of river Brahmani. On a huge sand rock, one could find a massive image of Lord Vishnu in a sleeping posture. In spite of its magnaminity, image contains a natural softness. The period of its creation is believed to be 8th-9th century AD. This sleeping image of Vishanu at Bhimakand is second only to Gomateswar (Karnataka) in size. However, is has the honour of being the largest sleeping image in India.

DEULAJHARI

Situated amidst a bowl of vegetation near Athamalik, Deulajhari is famous for presence of hot spring. This spring seems to flow from the bottom of Shiva Lingam. The water is naturally channelized to 36 ponds on the outskirts of Shiva Temple. The water is believed to contain medicinal properties; a bath in this spring has religious connotation too. It is 90km away from Angul. Regular bus services are available from Angul. Dhekanal, Talcher, Cuttack & Bhubaneswar to Athamalik. A final distance of 3km is negotiable on by jeep.

BANARPAL

Banarpal is located on the junction of National Highway 23 & National Highway 42. It is at a distance of 10km from Angul, is a convenient base for highway tourists.

RENGALI

The river Brahmani shelters a dam & reservoir with a hydroelectric project at Rengali amidst picturesque environs. It is at a distance of 85km from Angul; it is a nice place for group picnic.

SAMAL

Located at a distance of 40km from Angul & only 20km from Talcher, Samal has carved out a niche for itself in the grand hall of Orissa Tourism. It was possible due to the establishment of a hydroelectric project in this area. The panoramic view is a panacea for the group picnickers. 

KHULUDI

The Malaygiri range of Pallahara subdivision in Angul district houses a glittering waterfall near the village Khuludi. The fall makes a spectacular jump from the hilltop & pays homage to Lord Shiva on the foothill. It is an ideal site for group picnics. It is located at a distance of 120km from Angul & is only 20km from Pallahara.

BOLANGIR

Bolangir is a well laid out town & has been famous since the time of Maharajas. It still possesses the charm & serenity of the good old days. It is one of the major commercial towns in the western part of Orissa. It is located at a distance of 327km from Bhubaneswar. Saintala is a small village and is 32km from Bolangir-Titilagarh road. It is known for its remains & ancient temples. The site of archaeological interest is the temple Chandeswari Thakurani, which is now in ruins. 

PATANAGARH

The ancient capital of the Kingdom of Patna, Patnagarh has some unique monuments. It is located at a distance of 38km from Balangir.

PANCHALINGESWAR

Situated on a hillock near Nilagiri, Panchalingewar is a place with beautiful surroundings & serves as a picnic spot for the visitors. The five lingams, known as Panchalingeswar, have the perennial spring flowing over them. These are an added attraction of this place. The Panthashala at Panchalingewsar provides accommodation to visitors.

CHANDNAESWAR

The holy shrine of Lord Chandanewar is a religious centre for the people of not only the district of Balasore but also of places adjacent. Devotees flock together in hundreds everyday & in thousands on festive occasions like Nilaparva for darshana.

BALARAMGADI

It is located at a distance of 2km from Chandipur. Here the river Budhabalanga meets the sea. It is a nice picnic spot and ideal for fishing & cruising. The fishing boats also provide an interesting sight.

CHANDABALI

Chandabali has been a famous river port since medieval times. Tourists can enjoy a boat journey to Aradi and Dhamra by river route from Chandabali.

ARADI

A beauty spot on the bank of river Vaitarani known as the sacred Ganges of Orissa. Aradi is famous for the Shaiva shrine of Lord Akhandalamani. Hundreds of pilgrims visit the place daily not only for Darshan but for seeking relief from physical ailments they suffer from. It is located 110km from Balasore. One can visit the place by boat from Chandabali.

DHAMRA

On the confluence of the rivers Vaitarani & Brahmani, where they meet the sea, Dhamra has a special appeal for all the tourists. It is located at a distance of 40km from Chandabali. It is approachable by boat & motor lunch. It is located at a distance of 160km from Balasore.

RAIBANIA

This is a place of historic importance. It finds its mention in the book Ain-I-Akbari. It is known for its group forts, which are now in ruins. The Jayachandiban or the lovely forest of Jayachandi is now used as an idea picnic spot. 

JAUGADA

Jaugada is the site for Ashokan rock edicts. It is located at a distance of 35km from Berhampur. The content of the edicts is similar to that of the edicts of Dhauli.

ARYAPALLI

Situated at a distance of 30km from Berhampur and at a distance of 6km from Chhatrapur in the district headquarters of Ganjam, the beach at Aryapalli is a quiet & charming with a refreshing climate.

TRATARANI

The temple of Tratarani, the twin goddess is situated on the top of a blue-capped hill. The beauty of the place is enhanced by the encircling river Rushikulya. The holy shrine draws large number of pilgrims throughout the year, especially on every Tuesday in the month of Chaitra. Tratarani place is well connected by regular bus services from Berhampur. There is a Revenue Inspection Bungallow for boarding & lodging purposes.
